Three businesses found in violation of liquor laws
SPRINGFIELD – Three Champaign County businesses were found to have violated liquor control laws in October.
The businesses were among almost 100 visited by representatives of the Illinois Liquor Control Commission last month.
A release from the commission said nine licensees statewide were found to be in violation.
The three in Champaign County were the Colonial Pantry on Illinois 49 and Interstate 74 in Ogden; Sav A Lot, 220 N. Broadway Ave., U, and Piccadilly Beverage Shop, 306 W. Main St., U.
The Champaign County checks were done on Oct. 1 and Oct. 29.
Seventeen licensees were checked on Oct. 1 and only the Colonial Pantry was found to be in violation. Of 29 checks done on Oct. 29, the other two violators were discovered.
Ninety-one percent of the licensees visited statewide complied with the laws and refused to serve underage customers, the release said.
The checks are part of ongoing undercover, cooperative law enforcement operations conducted by Illinois Liquor Control Commission agents, local law enforcement officials and volunteers from high schools and colleges who randomly visit liquor stores, restaurants and bars in communities around the state to make sure liquor is not being sold to anyone under 21.
