Bond at $150,000 for man accused of shooting in argument
URBANA — Bond has been set at $150,000 for a Champaign man accused of firing a gun during an argument with his wife.
Jack Fairfield, 58, who listed an address in the 2500 block of Lawndale Drive, was charged Thursday with aggravated unlawful restraint, reckless discharge of a firearm, and domestic battery.
A Champaign police report said Fairfield was hitting his 55-year-old wife in their home on Nov. 7 and in the process, fired a gun.
Champaign Assistant State’s Attorney Larry Solava said the couple had been arguing and Fairfield grabbed his wife by the arm and neck and pushed her against a wall. Then, while she was in the bathroom, he fired a .22-caliber handgun. Salava said Fairfield later pushed her onto a bed.
The report said the incident was not reported to police until Nov. 11. Fairfield was arrested at his home Wednesday, the report said.
Solava said a .22-caliber handgun was found in Fairfield’s home.
Judge John Kennedy ordered Fairchild to have no contact with his wife.
