Children in four Rantoul elementary schools are scheduled to receive H1N1/swine flu vaccinations today, but plans to vaccinate kids at other Champaign County schools this week will depend on whether another shipment of vaccine arrives Wednesday, says Champaign-Urbana Public Health District Administrator Julie Pryde.

The Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department also has scheduled flu shot clinics for H1N1.

Vaccinations at the four Rantoul schools, Pleasant Acres, Eastlawn, Broadmeadow and Northview, are definite, Pryde said.

But the health district is about out of vaccine and will need another shipment to continue at other schools, she adds.

If vaccine arrives, here's the vaccination schedule for the rest of the week, Pryde said:

– Wednesday: Unity East Elementary in Philo and Unity West Elementary in Tolono.

– Thursday: Booker T. Washington Elementary in Champaign; Prairie, Martin Luther King Jr., Thomas Paine and Leal elementary schools in Urbana.

– Friday: Some private and parochial schools; scheduling is still under way.

Meanwhile. the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department has scheduled H1N1 vaccination clinics for individuals who fit into five priority groups.

Health officials there said eight cases of H1N1 flu have been confirmed: seven in Iroquois County and one in Ford County.

The vaccination clinics will be held in Paxton and Watseka. The first two are scheduled Wednesday, from 3 to 8 p.m. at PBL High School's cafeteria and from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department office at 114 N. Third St., Watseka.

Other clinics will be held Nov. 9, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the PBL High School cafeteria and from 1 to 8 p.m. at the health department's office in Watseka.

Individuals in the following priority groups can receive the vaccine at the clinics:

– Pregnant women (who will need to bring a doctor's order).

– Caregivers of children younger than 6 months old.

– Any person between 6 months and 24 years of age.

– Any person having a chronic health problem or compromised immune system and is between the ages of 25 to 64.

– Medical/dental providers.

Individuals not fitting into one of the priority groups will not be given an H1N1 vaccination at the clinics and are asked to return at a later date.
