Fly-ash bill gets unanimous approval
DANVILLE – Legislation that would regulate disposal of ash that's produced in the coal-burning process has passed the Illinois House unanimously, but the Illinois Chapter of the Sierra Club thinks more stringent regulations are needed to protect citizens and the environment.
House Bill 4172 unanimously passed the House on May 8. It requires that dump sites for ash from the coal-burning process be covered properly with soil, be 250 feet from water sources and be approved and inspected by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
