CHAMPAIGN – Hundreds of volunteers walked the streets of the Garden Hills neighborhood Tuesday evening, knocking on doors and talking to residents about the importance of getting their children to school every day and on time.

The effort was part of the Champaign school district's Operation STOP (Stop Truancy Outreach Program), and the goal is to get every school to at least a 95 percent attendance rate. The volunteers were principals, teachers and staff; district administrators; and members of community organizations. They knocked on the doors of nearly 500 homes Tuesday evening.
