Champaign man escapes fiery crash
SAVOY – A Champaign man escaped a fiery crash at a railroad crossing in Savoy early this morning.
Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Will Davis said Michael S. Newton, 19, of the 3600 block of Marjorie Lane, Champaign, was driving south on Dunlap Road and turned to go east on Curtis Road at 1:09 a.m. today. As he was turning, his van went out of control and struck a railroad crossing sign post head on, the sergeant said.
