UI announces police chief selection
URBANA – Barbara O'Connor has spent most of her life in her home state of Massachusetts but said she's ready for a change of scenery – in the Midwest.
O'Connor, 47, director of public safety at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst since 2001, was announced Wednesday as the new University of Illinois police chief, pending approval by UI trustees in November. If approved, she will begin her duties Jan. 1 and earn $160,000 annually.
