University of Illinois graduate student Hussein Abbasi hands out ribbons Thursday evening by the Alma Mater on the UI campus in Urbana. A group of about 50 people, including Iranian students and other community members, gathered at the Alma Mater to memorialize those reported killed during an election protest in Iran and to critique the Iranian government's handling of the election.

In Tehran, Iran, hundreds of thousands of protesters dressed in black and green flooded the streets Thursday in a somber, candlelit show of defiance and mourning for those killed in clashes after the disputed presidential election.
