Savoy critic doesn't make much sense

Monday March 6, 2006

I was confused by the logic used in Ronna James' recent letter. In it, she berates Mayor McCleary and the Village of Savoy for failing to celebrate Martin Luther King Day and then states that for that reason she will vote no on building a new school in Savoy.

I don't know why Savoy does not celebrate Martin Luther King Day, but I do know that the failure to do so should not effect how James votes on the referendum. By voting no, she is not just getting even with Mayor McCleary, she is also denying the children a new school north of University Avenue and a replacement school for the aging Dr. Howard School in central Champaign.
