Rantoul soldier killed in vehicle attack in Afghanistan
RANTOUL – A Rantoul serviceman serving in Afghanistan died on Friday after the enemy attacked his vehicle.
The Department of Defense announced on Sunday night that Sgt. Christopher M. Rudzinski, 28, of Rantoul died near Kandahar, Afghanistan.
According to a press release from the Department of Defense, Sgt. Rudzinski died Friday of wounds he received when opposition forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device.
"We are saddened by this tragedy," said Rantoul Mayor Neal Williams. "This young man was overseas serving his country and community and gave the ultimate sacrifice."
Sgt. Rudzinski served as part of the 293rd Military Police Company, 385th Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Airborne Brigade, based in Fort Stewart, Ga.
